Cuba – Sandra A. "Sandy" Beard "Loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother
Sandra A. "Sandy" Beard, of 13 Medbury Heights, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the Wellsville Manor Care Center, following a lengthy illness.
Sandy was born on April 21, 1937 in Warsaw and was a daughter of Charles Thomas and Cecil Rodgers Arzberger. On June 22, 1958, at the First Baptist Church of Cuba, she married her husband of 62 years, The Rev. Robert G. Beard, who survives.
Sandy was a 1955 graduate of Cuba Central School. She continued her education at Erie County Technical College earning her Associates Degree in Food Administration in 1957. Sandy and her husband, Bob, moved many times with his careers living in many states from coast to coast, including New York, Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Illinois, and Iowa. While they lived in Connecticut, where her daughter was born, she worked at Gimble's Department Store in Bridgeport, CT, where she was the head of sales in 2 departments. Sandy worked at the cafeteria at Gordon College in Wenham, MA, while Bob was attending school. She worked for many Hallmark Card stores, and she also worked as an Ombudsman for Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, IA.
Sandy was a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church, where she was always quick to volunteer for the rummage room. She was an active member of a community club and the Lion's Club while living in Iowa. Sandy volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Mobile for over 20 years in both Iowa and Cuba. Sandy was an avid bowler and a fan of Dixie Land Jazz Music. She was an avid baker and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labors with friends and family.
Along with her loving husband, Bob, Sandy is survived by; a daughter, Kathleen A. (Terence) Hays of Oneonta; 2 granddaughters, Bryanna K. (Stephanie) Beard of Friendship and Courtney M. (Elijah Sullivan) Hays of Albany; 2 siblings, Sharon Matteson of Cuba and Thomas (Deborah) Arzberger of Florida; and 6 nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba, on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Cuba First Baptist Church, 17 South St., Cuba, on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 10:00 am. The Rev. Lynn Sullivan, Pastor, will officiate.
