Roy K. Bryer, of 2557 Keim Hollow Road, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Roy was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Englewood, NJ and was a son of Roy K. and Catherine Walker Bryer, Sr. On September 22, 1946 at St. Cecelia's Church in Englewood NJ, he married the former Harriet Martinelli, his loving wife of the past 66 years who survives.
Roy attended Dwight Marrow High School in New Jersey. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1945 to 1947. Roy and his family moved to Allegany in 1960 and started a small family farm. He was employed by Soplop Brother's, Edstrom Construction and for L.C. Whitford, Inc. as a Carpenter Forman upon his retirement. Roy was a member of the Local 66 Carpenters Union. He was also 50 year plus member of St. Bonaventure Church. Roy enjoyed woodworking and antiques in his spare time. He was an avid Buffalo Bill's and St. Bonaventure men's basketball fan, and in the past was an avid golfer & bowler.
In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by three sons, Glenn S. Bryer, Steven Bryer, and Roy K. (Donna) Bryer III all of Allegany; one daughter, Karren Bryer of Allegany; two grandchildren, Steven Bryer, Jr. of Bradford, Pa., and Joyce Bryer of Concord, NC; two great grandchildren, Angel and Tiffany Bryer both of Bradford, Pa.; a sister, Doris Kelly of Allegany; and several nieces and nephews.
Roy is predeceased by a son Darryl Bryer; and a sister Muriel Dandrea.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bonaventure Church at 10:00 am. The Rev. James Vacco, O.F.M., pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892.
