Portville- Roxane Arminta Miles Struchen “Devout Christian”
Roxane M. Struchen, 97, of 241 Prosser Road and most recently the Pines of Olean passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.
Roxane was born on December 21, 1927, in Olean and was the daughter of Gilbert R. and Madeline K. Haucknecht Miles. She was formerly married to E. Ray Spink who passed away on October 24, 2015. She then married Frank D. Struchen who predeceased her on April 29, 2009.
Roxane was a 1946 graduate of Olean High School. She continued her education at Rider University in New Jersey where she earned her Business Degree and Jamestown Community College. She volunteered as a girl scout leader and ran a morning day care in Portville. Roxane worked at the Olean Times Herald for about 10 years in the early 1970s and for Pepper & Crandall as a real estate agent for many years until her retirement. She also worked as an interior decorator for a period of time. Roxane had a profoundly deep personal faith and love for her Lord and Savior, she was a lifetime member at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She volunteered at the Genesis House and was a member of the Red Hat Society Club and the Zonta Club.
Roxane had a true love for Chautauqua Lake and the Chautauqua Institute where she would spend many of her summers as a teenager and then throughout her life would vacation there, attending operas, plays, concerts and religious church services at the Amphitheater.
Roxane also enjoyed photography, water skiing and downhill skiing, starting at the age of 40 until the age of 75, working in her rock garden, and talking to all the animals. She loved to read anything and everything including her Bible many, many times over. Roxane loved to travel. She lived in many places, including Le Harve, France for 2 years, Dubai, UAE for a year, and Aberdeen, Scotland for 4 years. While living overseas she traveled extensively to many countries including Germany, England, Switzerland, Greece, and in her retirement, she visited Jerusalem, which was one of her favorites.
Roxane is survived by her children, Bradley M. (Jenni Young) Spink of Olean, Lezlee A. (Frances Patz) Spink of Butler, PA., of Olean, son-in-law, William Hasard, a daughter-in-law, Mindy Spink, 5 step children, Susan (Paul) Murray of Bethlehem, CT., Donald (Joan) Struchen of Portville, Dave Struchen of Three Springs, PA., Chuck (Yvonne) Struchen of Middletown, DE., and Chris (Jo) Struchen of Three Spring, PA., 5 grandchildren, Lisa, Nicole, Sean, Kevin, and Cari, many great grandchildren, a great great grandson, and step grandchildren.
Roxane is also predeceased by her parents, her son, Mark E. Spink, on April 28, 2020, her daughter, Diane E. Hasard on May 1, 2022, and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Spink on January 7, 1999.
Friends will be received on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean and again on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 419 Laurens Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held at 11:00am. The Rev.
