Robert W. Schaumleffel of 417 East State Street, Olean passed away Wednesday; March 9, 2011 at Absolut Care after a brief illness.
He was born July 25, 1928, in Olean, NY and was the son of Alfred and Ezelea Quirn Schaumleffel. He is survived by his wife Marjorie who he married on August 25, 1978 in the First United Methodist Church of Endicott, NY.
Bob was a graduate of Olean High School and attended St. Bonaventure University Studying Chemistry and was a graduate of Capital Engineering Institute, of Washington, DC.
Bob was well known for his philanthropy in supporting many local organations. He worked for the Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC until joining the US Army where he picked up an interest in Geology. After Military Service he worked for Acme Electric until retiring because of family illness and later became interested in the antique business. While working for the US Government he was involved in the Apollo Space Program. Bob was also an Amateur Radio Operator and later won the AWA award for his radio museum.
Bob was a Past Master of Enchanted Mountain Masonic Lodge and Past Grand Royal matron for Order of Amaranth. He was a member of the Olean Rotary Club and Olean Stamp Club. He was a world traveler in Archeology, Lepodatry, Entomology and Photography.
Besides his wife he is survived by special long time friends Donald and Beverly Holcomb and family.
Friends will be received at the Christ United Methodist Church, Olean, NY on Sat. March 12, 2011 from 1PM - 2Pm at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Dr. William A. Allen will officiate and the Rev Kristen A.R. Allen will co officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, SPCA or Joyful Rescues.
