Humphrey- Robert J. “Bob” Gebauer “Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather”
Robert J. Gebauer of Irish Hollow Road passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Olean General Hospital.
Bob was born on May 8, 1941, in Ellicottville and was the son of John and Minerva Moon Gebauer. On April 19, 1974, in Great Valley he married his loving wife Candace Smith, who survives.
Bob worked for York Merrit in Ellicottville as a machinist for about 13 years and then at CB Nortons & Son in Great Valley for several years before becoming a self-employed auto-body repairman until he retired in 2001 due to a disability. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his cats and dog, Hank. Bob formerly attended the Humphrey Baptist Church.
Bob will be fondly remembered for his perfect hugs, his love of coffee and conversation, his jokes, for rides in his beloved truck, his helping hand, and the love he gave his family and friends.
Beside his loving wife, Candace, Bob is survived by his three children: twins, Glenda R. (Donald) Scott of Olean and Lisa E. Smith of Busti, and April M. Montanye of Gloversville, 7 grandchildren: Amber, Thomas, Mandy, Jessica, Devin, Abram and Jayna, many great grandchildren including Shaylyn and Tré, a sister, Betty L. Keyes of Great Valley, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, 4 brothers: Curt, Leon, Luke, and Clinton Gebauer and 2 sisters Ila Maynard and Jeannette Chapman.
At Bob’s request there will be no services held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
