Robert G. Buckley of 2610 McCann Hollow Road passed away today, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 at the Pines Health & Rehabilitation, following a brief illness.
Mr. Buckley was born on June 9, 1926 in Olean and was the son of Glenn and Gretchen Faulkner Buckley. On Feb. 7, 1953 at the Olean First Baptist Church, he married Diane M. Travis, who survives.
Bob was a1944 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. Mr. Buckley was a 1950 graduate of Hiram College, Hiram, OH with a Bachelor Degree. He worked for Buffalo Slag Co. for about 30 years as Vice President until 1981. Bob always wanted to own his own business so 1983 he bought Olean Creative Mailing which he still owned and operated.
Bob was a life long member of the Olean First Baptist Church where he held several positions. Bob was a former member of the Olean Kiwanis Club and a Past Commodore of the Cuba Lake Yacht Club. He enjoyed sailing on Cuba Lake, skiing at Wing Hollow, and traveling to Jekyll Island, GA and to the State of Maine.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mr. Buckley is survived by a son, Gregory T. (Donna) Buckley of Olean; a daughter, Valerie A. (Michael) Kane of Olean; a sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Linda & Harvey Galloway of Lexington, VA; four grandchildren, Alison B. Kane, Megan B. Kane, Travis R. Buckley, Matthew G. Buckley; and many nieces, nephews, & cousins.
He is predeceased by a brother William F. Buckley, and a sister, Nancy A. Phillips.
Friends will be received on Friday, December 31, 2010 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church, Olean. The Rev. Daniel N. McDowell, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany.
