Little Genesee- Richard A. Schmitt “Loving Father, Grandfather & Friend”

 

Richard A. Schmitt AKA “Fearless” passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

 

Rich was born October 16, 1926, to Andrew & Teresa Schmitt in Buffalo, NY. On November 25, 1950, Rich married his sweetheart, Marie Wojtczak Schmitt who predeceased him in 2021. They were married for 70 years.

 

Rich served in the Army in the Philippines during WWII. He served as President of the Twin District Fire Department of Lancaster, NY and was a long-time barber in Cheektowaga, NY before moving to the southern tier in 1972. Rich, along with Marie and his brother and sister-in-law developed, owned, and operated Genesee Heights Mobile Home Park & Sales.

 

Rich and his lovely wife served their Lord and Savior through various ministries at Faith Bible Church (1981-1998) in Little Genesee, NY as well as First Baptist Church (1998-2016) in Barefoot Bay, Fl. They returned to Little Genesee in 2016.

 

Rich is survived by four sons, Richard (Cindy) Schmitt, John (Pattie) Schmitt, Will (Kim) Schmitt, Dave (Jennifer) Schmitt, three daughters, May Lou (Joe) Agnello, Patsy (Mike) Pettit, Linda (Bryan) Perrin, 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.

 

Rich was also predeceased by his parents, four siblings, Andrew, Ruth, Robert, and Mary Ann, as well as a great grandson Caleb.

 

The family is planning a celebration of life service in honor of Rich on July 2, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
