Cuba- Richard C. Ratzel “Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather”
Richard C. Ratzel of 1049 Carpenter Hill Road passed away on Tuesday December 20, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Richard was born on November 30, 1934, in Olean and was the son of Earl M. and Nina Willover Ratzel. On April 4, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany he married his loving wife of 65 years, Nancy C. Lockwood who survives.
Richard served in the US Navy from February 8, 1954, to December 3, 1957. He began working at the Local 621 Construction Laborers Union where he continued to work until his retirement in 1996. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and working around his home.
Beside his loving wife, Nancy, Richard is survived by his five children: Carole L. (Earl) Ratzel of Franklinville, Gail J. (Stephen) Ford of Lebanon, PA., Richard C. (Abby) Ratzel and Douglas S. Ratzel both of Franklinville, Daniel J. Ratzel of Hinsdale, seven grandchildren; Amy, Theresa, Becky, Mark, Samantha, Brian, and Carl, two step grandchildren; Amanda and Willie, nine great grandchildren, and a sister, Joan Carls of Olean.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, two grandsons; Jeremiah Ford and Tyler Ratzel, two brothers; Robert and Gerald Ratzel, and two sisters; Eleanor Dutton and Margaret Shetterly.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean today, December 22, 2022, from 5:00-7:00pm and Friday December 23, 2022, from 10:00-11:00am. A funeral service will be at 11:00am where The Rev. David Ford will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892.
