Richard G. Gaspar of 203 North 24th Street, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in the Olean General Hospital.
Mr. Gaspar was born on Oct. 23, 1927 in Olean and was a son of Robert and Jemima Meecham Gaspar. On May 23, 1952 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church he married his wife of almost 58 years Bernadine R. Hennigan, who servives.
Mr. Gaspar was a 1944 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the U.S. Amy during WWII. Following the war he then began working at Clark Brothers in Olean then Pitt Corning in Port Allegany then Corning Glass in Bradford and returned Dresser where retired from in 1987 after almost 25 years.
Mr. Gaspar was a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was a past Deacon. He was an avid outdoor's man enjoying his time at there camp on the North Nine Mile and hunting. Mr. Gaspar taught himself how to play the harmonica and mandolin. He was a member of the Olean American Legion and the Olean Elks.
Surviving Mr. Gaspar besides his wife are a son, Robert P. (Maureen) Gaspar of Barkhamsted, CT; two grandchildren, Caitlin E. Gaspar of New York City, NY, and Dylan P. Gaspar of Barkhamsted, CT; and a niece and a nephew.
Mr. Gaspar was pre-deceased by two sisters Roda Gaspar Infant sister who died in 1927 and Joan Gust who died 2010.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Dr. Derek J. Cheek, Pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
