Olean- Rex B. Marvin “St. Bona’s Flag Man”

 Rex B. Marvin of Garden Ave passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Pines of Olean. 

 Rex was born on September 22, 1952, at St. Francis Hospital in Olean and was the son of Charles Keith and Frances Lea Braden Marvin. On April 16, 1977, at the Portville Baptist Church he married his loving wife, Gale P. Storey, who survives.

 Rex was a 1970 graduate of Portville Central School. He continued his education at Houghton College, Olean Business Institute, and Spurgeon Baptist Bible College in Florida. Rex worked for several places including Super Duper, Weston Shopper City, Newspaper Carrier, and the Castle Inn.  He lived in Florida from 1977 to 1981 where he worked for McDonalds and local grocery stores, before returning to Olean where he started working at Ried’s Food Barn as the frozen dairy manager for over 32 years, retiring in 2013 due to a disability. Rex was a youth leader in Portville and Florida for his churches.

 Rex enjoyed sports and was the Flag Man at the St. Bonaventure basketball games for 25 years. He also enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and the New York Yankees, as well as playing softball and basketball. Rex loved fireworks and his dogs. He was formerly a member of the Portville Baptist church for over 40 years, and he currently attended South Side Union Chapel also known as Heritage AFlame Church.

 Beside his loving wife, Gale, Rex is survived by his three children; Matthew H. (Athena Roar) Marvin of Seattle, WA and their children; Rhianna, Luke, and Ayden, Jonathan R. Marvin of Olean, Melody R. (Paul) LeBlanc of Olean and their children; Jayden, Elliott, Makenlie, Parker, and Aria, three sisters: Marcy L. (Larry) Burke of Prattville, AL., Dawn D. (Chip) Horn of Frederick, MD., and Beth M. (Brian Patten) Marvin of Weston Mills, a sister-in-law, Barb J. Marvin of Portville, several nieces and nephews.

 Rex was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Karl L. Marvin on March 2, 2006.  

Friends will be received on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 1:30pm. The Rev. David W. Herne and Rev. Al Batt will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
