Spring, TX – Raymond C. Limerick, Jr. "Retired City of Olean Fire Captain"
Raymond C. Limerick, Jr., formerly of 709 Hoop St., passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the Broadmoor Nursing Home, due to complications from diabetes.
Raymond was born September 29, 1934 in Eldred, PA and was a son of Raymond Clift and Carrie Mable Stiles Limerick. On May 25, 1957, at St. John's Lutheran Church, he married his wife of 50 years, Carol Joan "Sue" Sherburne, who predeceased him in 2007.
Raymond was a 1953 graduate of Otto High School. He served in the US Air Force from February 1, 1955 to February 28, 1959. Raymond worked at King's Greenhouses and then for the City of Olean Fire Department from 1959 to 1993, where he retired as a Captain. Following his retirement, he worked as security at Cutco Cutlery. Raymond was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany and the Portville American Legion.
Raymond enjoyed and greatly looked forward to the annual fishing trips to Canada with his firefighting buddies and other dear friends, deer hunting in the winter, being anywhere near the water, and watching all kinds of sports, but he truly loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by; a daughter, Laurie (Rene) Bernier of Spring, TX; a grandson, Brent Limerick of Olean; 2 brothers-in-law, Gary (Mary Ann) Sherburne of State College, PA and Joseph (Stella) Sherburne of Portville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with his loving wife, Sue, Raymond was predeceased by; his parents; his son, Daniel Limerick; his daughter, Amy Limerick; his granddaughter, Stacey Marie Bernier; his sisters, Virginia Miller, Ella "Sue" Merton, Ruth Ackerman, Bernice Abdo, Raylene Limerick, and Carol Simon; and 2 brothers-in-law, Ronald and Dale Sherburne.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean, on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892 Ritual Team.
