Mrs. Phyllis C. Miller, formerly of Cowlesville and Olean, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Machias.
Born on April 1, 1922, in Providence, Rhode Island, Phyllis was the daughter of John M. and Jessie Holt Cochran. On June 28, 1947, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, she married her husband of 53 years Frank A. Miller, who pre-deceased her on Sept. 13, 1990.
Mrs. Miller was a graduate of Pawtucket High School. She received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Rhode Island. She taught Home Economics in a number of schools, and served in the US Marine Corp from July 23, 1945, to June 27, 1946.
Mrs. Miller was an active member of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Alden, where she was a member of the Church Council and Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge, where she held offices, was a color bearer, and served on the finance committee.
Mrs. Miller is survived by three sons, Rev. John E. (Kathie) Miller of Ancram, NY, Peter A. (Brenda) Miller of Olean, NY, and Richard A. (Lynette) Miller of Wilson, NC; two daughters, Janet M. Bronston of Norman, OK, and Martha M. (John) Blaisdell of Fulton, MD; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. A. Royston (Catherine) Cochran of Wakefield, RI.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Miller was pre-deceased by a grandson, Gary A. Miller, on May 5, 2005, and a son-in-law, Charles Patrick (Pat) Bronston on March 8, 2008.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at 11 am at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church,13021 Main Street, Alden. The Rev. Patricia Guinn, Pastor, and the Rev. John Miller will officiate. Burial will be next to her husband in the Cowlesville Community Cemetery, Cowlesville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 13021 Main St., Alden, NY 14004-1225.
