BRADENTON, FL- Patricia L. “Patty” Sweet “Loving mother, grandmother, and sister”
Patty L. Sweet passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at her home in Florida, surrounded by her friends, family, and dog after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Patty was born December 7, 1941, in Olean, NY, the daughter of Pascal and Lucy Aurino. She was a lifelong resident of Olean, in later years, splitting her time between her home on York Street and winters in Florida.
Patty graduated from Olean High School in 1959, where she lettered four years in varsity basketball and cheerleading. She enjoyed athletics throughout her life as an avid skier and golfer. Patty was the Bartlett Country Club Women’s Champion ten times. Even after her diagnosis, she continued to stay as active as she could and through sheer willpower, lived on her own terms until the end.
Patty spent most of her life as a homemaker and wonderful mother. She took great pride in her home, her sons, and her grandchildren. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of planting flowers, the natural beauty surrounding her home, watching the sunset on Anna Maria Island and her beloved dogs.
Patty is survived by her sons, Jason J. (Maureen) Sweet of Malvern, Pennsylvania and Dustin J. Sweet of Reno, Nevada; two grandchildren, Lauren E. Sweet and Clint L. Sweet; her brother Louis (Carla) Aurino; niece Jamie Aurino and nephew Chad Aurino; and her long longtime companion John Snyder.
We are very grateful to her friends and neighbors on York Street who were so kind and helpful to our mom throughout her later years. She also leaves behind her friends and extended family in Florida, who were likewise caring and thoughtful to the end. She thought the world of all of you.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday March 5, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, with a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital per her wishes.
