Olean- Norman R. Whitman

Norman R. Whitman, of South 9^th Street passed away on November 22, 2023, at Olean General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born on March 24, 1935, in Manchester, Maine, he was one of 12 children of Carl and Laura Pierce Whitman. On June 6, 1992, he married his beloved wife Barbara Derwick, who predeceased him on May 25, 2019.

While serving in the U.S Army from 1955-1957, Norm was a mechanic in Grand Island. He later founded and worked at Elma Collision for years, prior to moving to Olean.

Norm is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Mitchell of Litchfield, Maine and her son, Nathan Pierce Whitman-Smith of CO., and stepchildren, Paula (Jim) Bardenett of Olean, Pamela (Georges) Marceau of Cato, Scott (Paula) Derwick of Olean and their family. Marti Tillinger and Paula Harris were crucial in keeping Norm home where he wanted to be. They were incredibly important at keeping him comfortable and his reason to keep moving.

A memorial service will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church at 633 Linwood Ave, Olean, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00am where Pastor Chad Sayers will officiate.
