Olean- Norma Jean Johnson “ Loving mother, grandmother & sister”
Norma J. Johnson, 91 of King Street went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the Olean General Hospital from a short illness.
Norma was born on December 19, 1931, in Elm Grove, WV. She was the daughter of Virgil C. and Katherine Striff Davidson. On June 20, 1953, in West Wheeling, Ohio, Norma married William “Bill” Johnson who predeceased her on April 26, 2012.
Shortly after Norma’s birth, the family moved to West Wheeling, Ohio where she was raised. Norma was a 1949 graduate from Bridgeport Ohio High School. She worked for a drug store in Wheeling, WV for a short time and started working for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. in Bridgeport, Ohio. In 1955 she transferred to Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania in Bradford, PA. In 1957 Norma was transferred to New York Bell Telephone Co in Olean.
Over the years Norma was an active member of the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches. Since 1984, she and her husband have been members of Mt. Zion Christian Assembly. Norma is a born again Christian and served in various capacities with the Churches. Norma and her husband Bill were active members of the local Western Square and Round Dance Clubs in New York and Pennsylvania for over 30 years and have many Square Dance and Christian Friends throughout the area.
Normal loved her Lord and Savior Jesus, her family and her friends. She enjoyed sewing, sled riding, volleyball, garage sales and shopping at The Bridge.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Marcia Henderson of Cuba, her two sons, Erin (Babbs) Johnson of Cuba, and Trent Johnson of Olean; five grandchildren, Margel (Jason) Titus, Holly (Mike) Argauer, Bob Henderson, Adam Henderson, and Cory Henderson of Cuba; four great grandchildren, Shaune Titus, Michael Argauer, Mason Argauer and Avery Argauer; a sister Dee Barclow of Mingo Junction, Ohio; a sister in-law, Phyllis Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Norma was predeceased by her loving husband Bill of 59 years, her parents, a brother, Skip Davidson, two brother in-laws, two sister in-laws, four nephews and two nieces.
There will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend graveside services at Bowler Cemetery, Genesee with Pastor Stephen Patrick presiding. A celebration of life will be held in June at a date and place to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E.
