Miriam Colon, 58, of the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of Olean, went home to be with the Lord on February 15th, 2012.
Mimi was born September 20th, 1953 In New York City and was a daughter of Benigno and Lydia A. Colon Maysonet. She was formerly married to George A. Colon.
Miriam graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in New York City and went on to pursue a career with an advertising company. She also worked for the New York City Post Office. She moved to Olean in 1983 and worked for Fred's Contract Cleaning. In 1990 Miriam became a private nanny for the Branch/Prince family, dedicating several years. She enjoyed selling Mary Kay Cosmetics and Tupperware and was honored for her sales records. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and decorating. Miriam was passionate about her faith and love for God, her family, and her love for music. She was an amazing talent. She was a performer of many genres and was active in the Workshop Theater in Olean. She sang with several bands, such as Bob Lucia and Big Band. She performed at the Peak-N-Peak Resort in Findley Lake, NY and at the Chautauqua Institute as well as the Saint Bonaventure Quick Arts Center and many more venues. Her voice and her musical talent touched many people. It was her gift to others. Miriam was a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Her love was effortless. Her radiance was brilliant. Her memory is everlasting.
Surviving in addition to her loving mother of Olean are a daughter Jennifer Colon, who was the love of her life, and three grandchildren Diamond and Destiny Colon and Kalani Moore of Elmira NY. Also surviving are a sister Awilda Rivera of Olean NY and four nephews Peter (Awilda) Rivera of Bronx NY, Steve(Marybeth) Rivera of Maybrook NY, Nelson (Angela) Rivera of Olean NY, and Isaac Rivera of Delevan NY.
She was predeceased by her father Benigno Maysonet.
Friends will be received today, Friday, February 17th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. at 646 East State Street in Olean, where Funeral and committal services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at 10:00 am. Deacon Richard Matthews of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
