Michael W. Stavish of 3222 North 7th St. passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Stavish was born on April 3, 1929 in Olean and was a son of the late Michael and Anna Banka Stavish. On Nov. 7, 1953 in St. Mary of the Angels Church he married his wife Audrey N. Beal, who pre-deceased him of August 14, 1999.
Mr. Stavish served on the U.S. Marines from April 27, 1946 to Oct. 1, 1952. He worked Conrail before and after his military service from 1945 until his retirement on June 30, 1990. He was a Signalman while with Conrail.
Mr. Stavish was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, Allegany American Legion, the Pulaski and Elks Clubs. He enjoyed his grandchildren, playing cards and spending time at his camp in Ischua.
Surviving Mr. Stavish are a son, Michael Stavish Jr. of Allegany; two daughters, Sharon (Pat) Mikolajczyk of Allegany, and Lynn (Rick) Mott of Allegany; five grandchildren, Amber (Collin) Holycross of North Towanda, Amy Mikolajczyk of Monterey Ca., Adam, Tyler and Ashley Mott of Allegany; a sister, Jeannette "Yonnie" Melnyk of Olean; and a step sister, Elaine (Jon) Baker of Olean.
Mr. Stavish was also pre-deceased by a step brother John "Dutch" Padlo.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Foundation, Box 900, Buffalo, N.Y. 13226-0990 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
