Mathew D. Wheeler of 691 Spring Street, Olean, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Erie County Medical Center.
Mr. Wheeler was born on June 27, 1967 in Olean and was the son of Dean S. and Nancy Wills Wheeler. He was a graduate of Olean High School in 1986. Matt worked for the Present Company in the Olean Center Mall and later Dresser Rand in Olean and Cummins in Jamestown. Most recently he worked at Beacon Light in Bradford for the past five years until February of 2009.
Matt truly loved dirt track racing. He enjoyed working in the pits, towing the cars or painting & detailing them. Matt was as part owner of two race cars teams one with his brother Daniel and one with best friend Barry Muschaweek, both teams received championships. Matt was also known for going to all the area tracks and recording or video taping the races (& crashes) and placing it on CD's which were sought after by team members and fans.
Matt is survived by his mother, Nancy C. Wheeler of Olean; two sisters, Deana M. Cornman of Allegany, and Susan A. Wheeler of Buffalo, NY; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Barry Muschaweek of Texas.
He was predeceased by his brother Daniel M. Wheeler on Oct. 29, 2002.
At Matt's request there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family.
