Masae Burlingame

December 24, 1923 — April 26, 2011

Masae Burlingame of 462 Indiana Ave passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in the Republic of Singapore while with her daughter BJ Burlingame following a brief illness. Mrs. Burlingame was born on Dec. 24, in Takamatsu, Japan. She was a daughter of Harukachi and Naka Ishii. On May 24, 1951 in Japan she married her husband of 57 years, William A. Burlingame, who passed away Jan. 23, 2009. Mrs. Burlingame was a volunteer at the Olean General Hospital when she first came to the US in the 1950's. She then began working at the Olean General Hospital as a special cook in the 1970 and retired over twenty years later. She enjoyed traveling, living not only in the US and Japan but also in Germany. Mrs. Burlingame was incredibly artistic, an amazing cook, she was highly intelligent, sharp witted & a great since of hummer and very social. She was very devoted to her husband and daughter. She lived her life to the fullest while loving the finer things in life. Surviving Mrs. Burlingame are a daughter, BJ (Robert Kooij) Burlingame of Singapore; a younger sister; and a nephew, William (Judy) Richardson of Lockport. Friends will be received on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 10:00 am. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be with her husband, in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at by clicking on the button above.
