Allegany – Mary J.Swartz "Loving Wife, Mother, & Grandmother"
Mary J. Swartz, of 104 Jefferson Avenue, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the Olean General Hospital, following an illness.
Mary was born on October 2, 1940 in Sabinsville, PA and was a daughter of Ferris B. and Marie McCann Hazlett. On May 23, 1964, she married Joseph C. Everest, who predeceased her on December 10, 1979. On December 19, 1981, at the Allegany Presbyterian Church, she married her husband of 39 years, Gerald L. Swartz, who survives.
Mary was a 1958 graduate of Holland High School. She moved to Canada in 1958, where she worked as a Secretary until moving back to Allegany in 1980. Mary began working for Joe Dwyer at Dwyer & Dwyer Law Firm as a Secretary, until her retirement in 1998.
Mary was a strong willed person with an infectious smile and a big heart. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Pulaski Club, where she also enjoyed playing euchre. Mary volunteered at the "Bridge" at St. Bonaventure Church and enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, dancing, and playing the Par Three Golf with her husband, but most of all she loved her husband and family very much, especially her grandchildren whom she loved spending time with.
Along with her loving husband, Mary is survived by; 5 children, Lynne A. (Donald) Weimer of Portville, Stefani A. (Joseph) Behun of Cibolo, TX, Jennifer L. (Matthew) Mott of Oxford, Mississippi, Kristen M. (Brian) Dolan of Aberdeen, SD, and Jason M. (Monica Sweetwine) Swartz of Fredonia; and 15 grandchildren, Matthew, Leah, Aiden, Nick, Alec, Ellie, Dean, Tacie, Will, Cole, Hannah, Major, Kiera, Trey, and Rocke.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and 6 siblings, Elizabeth Ferris, Robert Hazlett, Margaret Aken, Edwin Hazlett, Ferris Hazlett, and Sarah Devling.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Al Batt, Associate Pastor of Believer's Chapel, will officiate. A complete obituary will be published in Tuesday's paper.
