Mary A. Ross

Mary A. Ross, of 1013 Washington Street, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012 in the Olean General Hospital, following an illness. Mary was born on Dec. 18, 1935 in Olean and was a daughter of John and Minnie Shirey Schieler. She was formerly married to William Maynard, Joseph Rosinski and Thomas MacFarlane. She married Francis G. Ross on Sept. 22, 1990 in Allegany. He pre-deceased her on Dec. 18, 2005. Mary worked at various places in Olean including the Tile Plant, Hastas Restaurant as a waitress for many years, Perkins Restaurant and the Olean General Hospital in the kitchen. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and doing crafts such as crocheting and making things for her family. She also enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas. She was a very giving and generous person with a strong personality and would often say "I Had a Good Kick at the Ball" meaning she had a good life. Surviving Mary are a son, Chris J. (Laurie) Maynard of Olean; two daughters, Jeannie L. (Lee) Cousins, and Brenda J. Maynard both of Olean; eight grand children; ten great grandchildren; and two brothers, Theodore Schieler, and Bobby (Roxie) Schieler both of Florida. Mary was pre-deceased by a daughter, Darcy L. Abdo in Aug. of 1978; two brothers, Jack and James Schieler; and five sisters, Doris Srodowa, Gladys Burnes, Jean Pilon, Rose Marowski and Judith Hassett. Friends will be received on Monday, March 12, 2012 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10:00 am. The Rev. Richard Keel will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount View Cemetery in the Veteran Field of Honor. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Olean General Hospital Foundation or to the SPCA.
