Allegany – Mary R. Pepper
Mary R. Pepper, of 3676 Buffalo Road, passed away on Monday March 14, 2022, at Olean General Hospital, following an illness.
Mary was born on July 13, 1939 in Buffalo and was a daughter of Joseph Wilson and Rita Mary Schwab Hackett. She was formerly married to Larry T. Hyman. On September 25, 1982, she married her husband of 24 years, Raymond L. Pepper, who predeceased her on October 29, 2006.
Mary was a 1957 graduate of Arcade Central School. She earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from SUNY Buffalo. Following graduation, Mary worked at Catholic Charities and in 1983 she moved to Olean and accepted a supervisory position in the Supervisor in the Social Services Department at the Cattaraugus County Nursing Home. Mary was formerly a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the Certified Social Workers of New York State. Mary also volunteered at Hospice. In 1984 Mary became a licensed real estate agent with Pepper and Crandall Real Estate Company in Olean and following the death of her husband she assumed the role of broker until retirement in 2017.
During Mary’s long tenured real estate career, Mary was a member of several real estate boards and active in a number of civic and community organizations.
Mary maintained close family ties with her siblings. Throughout Mary’s life, she was instrumental in favorably touching he lives of people she met and dealt with.
Mary is survived by 2 children, Michael J. (Danette) Hyman of Green Lake, WI., and Sarah P. (Gary) Bailey of Berthoud, Co., her loving companion, Ronald F. Wolf and his 3 daughters, Laurie W. Losey, Stacey W. Jones, and Terri Gilbert; 7 grandchildren, Kelly (Peter) Merrion, Sean Hyman, Nancy (Patrick) McGushin, Cory (Ashley) Hyman, Brandan (Sarah Kate) Greeley, Kyler Bailey, and Matthew Bailey; and 5 great grandchildren.
Mary was the eldest of 8 children, and is survived by Thomas Hackett of Buffalo, Trish (Raymond) Nicola of Seattle, WA., Alice (William) Schiltz-Hamed of Strykersville, NY., Danny (Lesa) Hackett of Chillocothe, OH., Don (Julie) Hackett of Southport, NC., and Shirley Hackett of Lake Tahoe, CA.
Along with her loving husband, Mary was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Joan Effman on February 9, 2016.
Friends will be received at Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, 646 E State St Olean, NY 14760 on Monday March 21, 2022, from 3:00-6:00pm. At which time a celebration of life will be held. Rev.
