Cuba – Mary L. Manko “Loving Mother, Grandmother & Friend”
Mary L. Manko of 4497 Hamilton Road passed away on Thursday (December 8, 2022) at the Absolut Care of Allegany, following a lengthy illness.
Mary was born on November 14, 1928 in Cuba where she lived her whole life. She was the daughter of Antonio and Carolina Meale Midey and was the youngest of six children. On August 12, 1950, at Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, she married her loving husband George James Manko, Sr., who predeceased her on November 20, 1993.
Mary was a 1946 graduate of Cuba Central High School and 1948 graduate of Olean Business Institute. She worked at Clark Brothers in Olean after graduation which is now known as Dresser Rand.
Mary was a life-long parishioner of Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church in Cuba. She was a member of the Women’s Altar Society and served faithfully on many church committees. She cherished her post as caretaker of the candles. She was also a member of both the Cuba Memorial Hospital Women’s Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed her life-long patronage of the Cuba Circulating Library.
Mary is survived by her three children; James (Ethel Kennedy) Manko of Providence, R.I., Thomas (Janet Mosconi) Manko of Avon, and Karen S. Manko of West Hartford, Conn.; three grandsons, Stephen, Daniel and Michael; and twenty-five nieces and nephews.
Along with her loving husband, George, Mary was predeceased by her parents; five siblings, Nicholas Vincent, Julia Angelina, Anthony Philip, Vincent Daniel and Dean Carl; a niece, Joanne Midey Halberstadt and baby nephew, Anthony Midey.
Mary lived her life simply and deeply through family, church, friends and Cuba. She will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. December 12, 2022 at the Letro- McIntosh- Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. Funeral services will be held, beginning with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Church, Cuba.
