Mary K. Butler of 4028 Rt. 417 passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 in the Rochester General Hospital.
Mrs. Butler was born on May 15, 1927 in Brigg, England and was a daughter of George and Violet Button Cockburn. On June 17, 1949 in Fakenham, England she married Idris Lewis "Bill" Butler, who pre-deceased her on Nov. 25, 2007.
Mrs. Butler worked on a farm for the Women Land Army in England during WWII. She and her husband moved to Spokane, Washington, in 1949. In 1972 Mrs. Butler and her husband moved to Allegany where they bought the Allegany Motel and operated it for 36 years.
Mrs. Bulter was a member of the Olean Easter Star Olean. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing Bingo, knitting, sewing & crocheting, and discussing current events. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Surviving Mrs. Butler are a son, Charles J. Butler of Olean; a daughter, Catherine J. (Mark) Moir of Pittsburgh, PA,; two brothers, Peter (Betty) Cockburn and Gerald (Jaquelin) Cockburn both of Norwich, England; two sisters, Esmay (Dr. James) Healey of Cherryfield, Maine and Dianne Jackson of Lowestoft, England; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth M.A. Moir of Pittsburgh, PA. and Mark W. Moir Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA.
Mrs. Butler was pre-deceased by her husband, Idris Lewis "Bill" Butler; a sister, Joan Norman; and a brother, Maurice Cockburn.
Friends will be received on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral and Committal services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Dr. Derek J. Cheek, Pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
