Martha Kathryn (Yurick) Bohan of Olean, died unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, July 25, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Francis M. Bohan, MD and her dog Deegan. She was born in Los Angeles, California on Dec. 29, 1958 to Dr. Bernard and Patricia Yurick.
Martha graduated from Olean High School in 1976 and continued her education as a music major at Fredonia College. In 1980 she graduated from Canisus College in Buffalo with a degree in business.
Martha was known for love of music and her abilities as a gourmet cook. She played the viola in the Olean String Quartet for many years and participated in many of the community orchestras in New York and Pennsylvania. Martha loved to entertain and show off her culinary skills to friends and family. She volunteered in many community activities and was an active in St. John's Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, worked with the Pre Cana program and volunteered yearly at the St. John's "Festa". She was a member of the Board of the Greater Olean Area Church. Many local residents will remember Martha walking with her late beloved dog "Nola".
Martha is survived by her mother Patricia Yurick of North Carolina, her sister Stephanie Yurick (Brian Reiff) of Arizona, two brothers Mark Yurick of Wisconsin and James Yurick (Amy Titus) of Olean, two favorite aunts, Judy Cuff of Louisiana, Kathryn Garlow of Pennsylvania, numerous nieces and nephews of North Carolina and cousins in Pennsylvania and Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. Bernard S. Yurick, and grandmother "Gram" Yurick.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward J. Sheedy, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made to St. John's Roman Catholic Church, 931 North Union Street, Olean, NY 14760, or to the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation 120 North Union Street Olean, NY 14760.
