Allegany- Marie (Waddoups) Martin, aged 98 years, died peacefully at her home on Sunday (23rd of January, 2022) following a long life.
Marie was born in Princethorpe, England on August 29, 1923. She had a happy childhood growing up in the Gardener’s Cottage with her parents, Alice Monica and Austin Edmund, and four brothers, Bernard, Austin (Lad), Francis, Albert (Ted). Marie considered her sisters-in-law Irene, Betty, and Alma as sisters. All predeceased her. On August 6, 1951, Marie married her loving husband of 68 years, Stuart Martin, who predeceased her.
Marie graduated from Underwood Secretarial College and worked at Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft during World War II. Marie recalled many stories about wartime England and specifically the Coventry Blitz.
Marie is survived by her four children, Peter Stuart (Carolyn) Martin of Cypress, Texas, Michael Robert Martin of Waterford, New York, Alan Richard Martin of Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, and Jean Catherine (Vincent) Oliverio of Ellicottville, New York, seven grandchildren; Christopher, Laura, David, Brian (Kaila), Steven, Nicholas, and Eric, and great-granddaughter McKenna Marie.
In 1964, Marie and her family left England and sailed on The Empress of England to Canada, where they lived for two years. In 1966, they moved to Allegany, New York.
Marie enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting and cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and most of all her family. She enjoyed keeping in daily contact with friends and family on her iPad.
Marie recently completed a year-long project of writing a book, using Storyworth.
At the family’s request, there will be no public visitation or service. Burial will be in the Princethorpe Cemetery.
