Marie Therese Wasik Hamlin, of 1301 Sunrise Drive, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014.
Marie was born August 25, 1933 in West Rutland, Vermont and was the daughter of Albert John and Sophia Hyduke Wasik. On, October 4, 1958 in West Rutland, she married her husband of almost 56 years, Giles B. Hamlin, MD, who survives.
Marie Graduated from West Rutland High School in 1951. She received her RN from the Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing in Hanover, NH, in 1954. Marie continued as a clinical nursing instructor there until 1958. Marie and her husband moved to Olean in 1961.
Marie was known for her strong Catholic Faith, and her devotion to and love for her husband and her family. She gave of herself to everyone she knew. She loved fresh flowers, big dogs, being outdoors and entertaining with flair. Beautiful Marie was elegant, vivacious, kind and nurturing. Her smile was radiant and lit up the room. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Along with her loving husband, Giles, Marie is survived by her daughters Ann (Richard) Hampshire of Friendship, Janie (Peter Schmidt) Hamlin of Breckenridge, CO, and Elizabeth (Patrick) Hamlin-Volz of Colchester, VT; a son Giles B. (Judith) Hamlin, Jr. of Syracuse; grandchildren Hannah (Joshua) Stuck, Molly Dougherty, Andrew Dougherty, Abby Dougherty, Giles B. (Charlie) Hamlin, III, Aubrey James (Jamie) Hamlin, Sarah Hamlin, David Hampshire, Keane Hampshire, and Steffan Hampshire; great-grandchildren Ryliegh Stuck, Allie Stuck, Gabriel Stuck, and Drake Hampshire; brothers Henry (Blanche) Wasik of Rutland, VT and A. Eugene (Kathryn) Wasik of Williamstown, VT; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two infants.
Friends will be received Friday, Sep. 12, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Sep. 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson will Celebrate, in the absence of the Rev. Edward Sheedy, Pastor of St. John's Church. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
