Olean – Marianne McCarthy "Beloved Friend" Marianne McCarthy, of 324 North 3rd Street, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020, at the Absolut of Salamanca, following a brief illness. Marianne was born in Cuba, and was a daughter of John B. "Jack" and Arlouine Giles McCarthy. She was a 1970 graduate of Cuba High School. Marianne earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Houghton College. Marianne worked for the Immanuel Lutheran Daycare in the early 1990's for about 10 years. She was a highly respected Librarian at the Olean Library for about 15 years. She was currently working at the Olean High School as a teacher's assistant. Marianne was a member of the St. Mary's Church, where she was a lector and she was very active & faithful. Marianne enjoyed theater and was active in the Olean Theater Workshop. She also enjoyed reading and knitting. Marianne was also a Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiast. Although, Marianne did not have any biological family, she "adopted" many friends who became family to her. She was "Auntie Mari" to many. Marianne had numerous cats who were her "kitty boys," Giles, Timmy, Tony, and others. She had many friends, including Sheila Spears, Kathy O'Malley, and Lori Iszkiewicz. Friends will be received on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, at which time a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, 202 South Union Street, Olean. Burial will be at the Cuba Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc.,646 East State Street, Olean. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Olean Theater Workshop, 702 Washington Street, Olean, New York 14760 or to the SPCA, 2944 Route 16 North, Olean, New York 14760.
