Bolivar – Lyle Paul Edwards
Lyle Paul Edwards,92, formerly of Bolivar, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Wellsville Manor following an illness.
Lyle was born August 8, 1929, in Belmont and was the son of Howard and Mabel B. Goodridge Edwards. On April 5, 1952, at the EUB Church in Obi he married the love of his life Ruth Esther LaFever who survives.
Lyle was a 1946 Graduate Portville Central School. He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1952. In 1949 to 1950 occupation duty in Japan. In 1950 to 1951 in the Korean War with the 1st Cav. 27 Ord. Co. and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Staff Sargent.
Lyle was employed by G. L. F. as a Store manager, and then Agway a dairy enterprise Salesman where he enjoyed building relationships with the farmers and Families he worked with. He retired in 1990 after 36 years on the job.
Besides his work Lyle enjoyed serving his community and his church. Lyle was a founding member of the Faith Bible Church in Little Genesee in 1970, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School teacher. He was known to fill pulpits in several churches. Lyle and his wife served as a missionary in the Philippines for 17 months and made a short-term mission trip to Venezuela and Lyle made a mission trip to India.
Lyle was member of the Bolivar American Legion Post 0772. He was a member and president of the Portville School board and the Cattaraugus County School Board and was voted Life membership in the Parent Teacher Association. Lyle was a member of the Allegany County Extension Board and was selected Conservation Man of the Year in Potter, PA. Lyle served as a councilman in the town of Genesee and as a supervisor for three years. He enjoyed being a volunteer at Jones Memorial Hospital for several years.
Lyle was proud to be an American soldier and his relationship with his Savior, but most of all he was proud of his wife and family.
Along with his loving wife, Ruth, of almost 70 years, Lyle is survived by; a son, Steven (Wanda) Edwards of Bolivar; 2 daughters, Linda (Larry) St. Lawrence of Great Falls, MT, and Kathleen (Daniel) Simpson of Rapid City, SD; 11 grandchildren, Abigail, Erica, Vanessa, and Brianna St. Lawrence, Luke and Jonathan Simpson, Christopher, Eric, Andrea, Kyle and Matthew Edwards; 19 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Lyle was predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers, Howard and Harry Edwards
