Lula I. Philblad of 500 East Spring St. Aspen Manor, formerly of 2 Edward Court, Olean, passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 in the Pines Health & Rehab Center in Olean.
Mrs. Philblad was born on May 15, 1910 in Stony Fork, Pa. and was a daughter of R. Elwyn and Katherine Field Steele. On Aug. 28, 1930 in Jamestown she married William N. Philblad who pre-deceased her on April 20, 1969.
Mrs. Philblad was a 1927 graduate of Wellsboro High School and a 1929 graduated of Mansfield University (Then Mansfield State Teachers College) with a degree in teaching. She taught for a short time in a One & a Two Room School house.
Mrs. Philblad was a 60 plus year member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Electa Chapter #84 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Philblad enjoyed playing cards and reading books.
Surviving Mrs. Philblad are two daughters, Linda A. (Ronald) Knudsen of Gainesville, and Sandra L. Ayers of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christopher & Kevin Ayres, and Katherine, Keith & Craig Knudsen; four great grandchildren, Nathaniel Ayres, Alison Ayres, Colin Knudsen and Casey Knudsen; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Philblad was pre-deceased by six brothers & sisters, Gladys West, Ruth Kero, Iva Dunn, John Steele, Louise Carlson and Max Steele; an infant brother and sister, Henry Steele and Katherine Steele; and a son-in-law, Alan Ayres in 2005.
There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Service and gathering will be held at a date and time to be announced.,p> In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church 633 Linwood Ave, Olean, New York 14760 or the Interfaith Caregivers 124 North Union Street, Olean, New York 14760.
