Lowell R. Belleisle, of 4497 Gile Hollow Rd., passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Olean General Hospital, following an illness.
Lowell was born Oct. 31, 1932 in Olean and was a son of Leo and Gladys Regis Belleisle. On June 16, 1955 he married his wife of over 49 years, Betty Schoonmaker, who predeceased him on September 17, 2004.
Lowell served in the Navy from Nov. 10, 1950 to Sep. 2, 1954. He worked at Viko Furniture in Eldred for a number of years, before going to work as a salesman for Royster Fertilizer Company then International Mineral and Chemical. Lowell was formerly a member of the Olean Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the American Legion. Lowell enjoyed playing euchre, going boating, water skiing, swimming, and going to the YMCA. He especially enjoyed going to Rushford Lake with his wife where they had a cottage. Lowell was a very good handyman in that he do it all the work himself. He also enjoyed buying, renovate and rent homes.
Lowell is survived by one son, Paul L. (Valerie) Belleisle of Rochester; two daughters, Nancy G. (William) Murphy, MD of Boothwyn, PA, and Cynthia I. (Ronald) Wilson of Ellicottville; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Katie, Krissy, Ben, Dan, & Nicole; three great grandchildren, Laney, Colton, & Miranda; three step great grandchildren, three sisters, Marie Gibbons of Olean, Jean Lowe of Olean, and Emily (Bob) Jordan of Washington State; and his loving companion, Anna B. Hurlburt of Hinsdale.
Along with his loving wife, Lowell was predeceased by three brothers, Bill, Jack and Douglas E. Belleisle.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at which time a Memorial Service will be held. The Rev. Dr. Derek Cheek, Pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
