Olean – Lisbeth Ann “Libby” Keenan
It is with sadness, admiration, and love that we announce the passing of Lisbeth Ann Keenan, 93, of Olean, N.Y., who died peacefully early Monday morning (Sept. 30, 2024), in the loving presence of her eight children.
Libby was born in Medina, N.Y., in 1931 to Hugh and Marie Krompart. She attended Olean High School and Cazenovia Jr. College. Libby left school to work at Niagara Mohawk Power Company where she was employed until she started a family. After her children were older, she accepted a position with Dr. E. R. Mountain, and later with Dr. Francis P. Keefe, and finally worked at Eden Heights of Olean as an office assistant from which she retired after 25 years.
She lived most of her life in Olean, where she married the love of her life, James C. Keenan on Sept. 1,1951, at St. Bonaventure Chapel. James passed away on Feb. 15, 1997.
Libby enjoyed caring for her husband and children who were the joy of her life. She and Jim enjoyed camping and boating, and were members of the Olean Racquet Club, playing tennis and meeting new friends. She played pinochle with her best friends for over 60 years. Libby also loved taking care of her yard and garden. One of her favorite things was driving for Interfaith Caregivers and working with and enjoying the elderly. In later life she enjoyed cheering on the Buffalo Bills and an occasional Muddled Old Fashioned.
Libby’s capacity for caregiving and kindness was truly endless. She always put the needs of others before her own.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother-in-law, Leo E. Keenan, Jr. (Ann), and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Dizek (Stephen), her sister, Barbara Chew and nephew Barton Chew.
Libby is survived by her eight children: James (Mary) Keenan, Karen (Roger) Keenan, Trish (Tony) Brunsing, Chris (Holly) Keenan, Terry (Anna) Keenan, Tim (Deb) Keenan, Mike (Ellen) Keenan, and Susan (Paul) Keenan. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Jim, Brian, Brian, Paul, Nathan, Sarah, George, Maria, Justine, Sean, Emily, Finn and Levi, and her 17 great-grandchildren: Madison, Aidan, Owen, Mollie, Carson, Camryn, Ella, Audrey, Sully, Maia, Claire, Cal, Henry, Ivy, Carter, Theo, and Jamie. She is also survived by 19 nieces and nephews: Leo, Kathy, Judie, Bobby, Maureen, DeeDee, Connie, Eileen, Kevin, Debi, Richard, Janet, Mark, Michael, Barbara, Charlotte, Ellen, Stephen and Diane.
As the matriarch and shining example for her large family, Libby will be sadly missed but fondly and joyfully remembered.
