Kevin J. Forness of 401 Gilmore Ave, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 in the Olean General Hospital, following a year long struggle with cancer.
Kevin was born on March 8, 1950 in Olean and was a son of John W. and Mary C. Watkins, Forness. On July 24, 1982 in Christ United Methodist Church he married Deborah J. DeRock, who survives.
Kevin was a 1968 graduate of Hinsdale High School. He served in the US Marines from March 27, 1969 to Jan. 27, 1971. He has worked for the past 40 years at Dresser Rand in Olean, and was currently a quality control inspector. Kevin was a NASCAR fan, a member of the Olean American Legion and a proud member of the United Steel Workers local 4601. In his younger days, Kevin enjoyed his Corvette, his speed boats and his motorcycle. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels as a driver and Toys for Tots fundraising. To Kevin his children were a source of great pride and he enjoyed spending time with them and attending all their sporting events.
Surviving Kevin besides his loving wife of 32 years are his mother Mary C. Forness of Cuba; a son, Cody (Noelle) Forness of Raleigh, NC; two daughters, Teegan (Jacey) Duzick-Forness of Olean, and Ann Forness of Scottsville, NY; a sister, Michelle (George) Bush of Portville; a brother, Roger (Annette) Forness of Hawaii; and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Kevin was pre-deceased by his father, John W. Forness on Nov. 10, 2012; a brother, Michael Forness on Feb. 6, 1978; a nephew Shawn Forness on March 16, 2002; and a beloved goddaughter Ann Marie Klingbeil.
At Kevin's request there will be no public visitation. Burial with full military honors, accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Marble Post 892, will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
