Olean - Bunny Howell
Kathryn M. "Bunny" Howell of 537 East Spring Street, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital, following an illness.
Bunny was born on May 14, 1940 in Olean and was a daughter of James Harold and Ruth Scheiterle Salvin. On July 10, 1966 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olean, she married her loving husband of 48 years, Harry Frederick Howell, who predeceased her on Sept. 27, 2014.
Bunny was a 1958 graduate of Olean High School. She started working at Hunter Insurance Agency straight out of high school, where she worked all of her career of almost 50 years, retiring in the early 2000's.
With Fred, Bunny, was active in the Walther League/Youth Group at Immanuel Lutheran Church where they were both lifelong members. With her sister Diana she was an active, creative force in the church’s Mother’s Club and enjoyed serving communion to shut-ins. Bunny also served as an elder, she was on the Board of the ICCC, and was a joyous member of the choir. Bunny loved her church and spending time with her friends, but she truly loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and children, and her best friend and sister, Diana.
Bunny had a truly hilarious and engaging sense of humor. She was usually the life of the party and enjoyed singing with her mom Ruth, her three sisters and brother, her daughter, nieces, sister-in-law and her many friends. She had a special knack for making people feel loved and served as honorary “mom” to many in our community as well as others. Bunny was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan—through all the highs and lows—and in her youth with her dearly loved husband, Fred, she loved bowling, skiing, singing around the piano at the old Olean House, and watching him play ball all over Western NY and Northwestern PA.
Bunny is survived by; 2 children, Tracee L. Howell of Bradford, PA and Christopher S. (Julie) Howell of Franklinville; 5 grandchildren, Jackson C., Isaac T., and Lily M. Howell, and Anna E. & Amy L. O'Neal; 4 siblings, James H. (Ann) Slavin of Phoenix, AZ, Carol A. Roadcap of Apalachin, Jacquelin C. (Gary) Kratochvil of Johnson City, and Diana L. (Tim) Scanlon of Olean; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today, Nov. 13, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
