Joy Jack Kastner of 119 North 12th Street, passed away Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011 in the Olean General Hospital following an illness.
Mr. Kastner was born on June 12, 1928 in Nebraska City, NB and was the son of Joy and Jenny Louise Morris Kastner. On July 19, 1986, in Olean, he married Janet L. John, who survives.
Jack served in the US Navy in the Southwest Pacific during WWII from 1946-1948. He was a production manager for San Diego Union News in Jaholla, CA for 25 years before working for AVX in California. Jack was transferred by AVX to Olean in 1977 and continued with AVX until the early 1980's. He then worked at Shawley's Office Equipment in Olean for about 10 years retiring in 1990.
Mr. Kastner was affiliated with the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church in Olean. He was a member of the Olean Eagles Club and enjoyed enjoying golf, fishing and gardening.
In addition to his wife of almost 34 years, Mr. Kastner is survived by two daughters, Carol (Tom) Bruegge, and Joy Kastner both of California; a stepdaughter, Kathleen M. Alexander of Northeast, MD; seven grandchildren; and a close friend, Jalala "Jay" Ramadhan of Olean.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 from 9:30 am to 11:00 at which time Funeral and Committal Services will be held. The Bishop of the Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, NY, with full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion.
