Olean- Johnnie A. Johnston “Loving Father, Grandfather & Brother”

Johnnie A. Johnston of 1617 Union Street passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Olean General Hospital following an illness.

Johnnie was born on November 11, 1948, in Olean and was the son of Bernard and Dorothy Stout Johnston. On October 3, 1986, in Bradford he married his loving wife, Betty J. Stewart who predeceased him on May 8, 2019.

Johnnie was a 1966 graduate of Olean High School. On August 30, 1971, he enlisted in the US Airforce where he served until September 21, 1973, at which time he was honorably discharged. Johnnie also served in the US Army National Guard Reserves. Johnnie worked at Cooper Industries for 25 years as a Job Setter until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed working with radio control cars, computer art and sculpting.

Johnnie is survived by his three stepchildren; Jacqueline M. (Calvin) Holloway of Loveland, OH., Tracey A. (Kevin) Yeamans of Portland, OR., and Walter E. (Jackie) Shales of Olean, 10 grandchildren; Clifford, Katie, Reba, Calvin Jr, Brandon, Kevyn, Athena, Zack, Wally, and Kailey, 3 great grandchildren, six siblings; Karen Nelligan, Neil (Deborah) Johnston, Cindy (Pat) Martin, Patricia Goodman, Laurie Jordan, and Tina Johnston.  

Johnnie was predeceased by his loving wife, Betty, his parents, and one brother, David “Butch” Johnston.

Friends will be received at the Central Baptist Church 701 West State Street on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 11:00am-12:00pm where a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Alan L. Yates will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery. Full military honors accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 Ritual Team.
