Cuba – John J. Mountain “Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather”
John J. Mountain, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at the Olean General Hospital, following a brief illness.
John was born on March 3, 1948 in Olean and was a son of the late Marie Herold and Dr Robert E. Mountain. On May, 9, 1999, he married his loving wife, Nancy Simons, who survives, in a picturesque ceremony on the Isle of Capri in Italy.
John was a 1966 graduate of Archbishiop Walsh Academy and a graduate of University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA. He proudly served his country in the US Army, during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he pursued several business endeavors. In addition to real estate ventures, John owned and operated Dr. Joe’s Intra-Costal Dispensing Company in Melbourne, Florida. He not only took great pride in his business; he truly relished the friends he made during his time as owner. John was also a previous member of the Bartlett Country Club, the Olean Rod and Gun Club, and the Cuba Rod and Gun Club.
John enjoyed hunting, traveling the world, cooking, golf, summers at Cuba Lake and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, and his ability to wear plaid shirts 365 days a year.
Along with his loving wife, Nancy, John is survived by; his children, Monica Simons, John (Laurie) Simons, and Melissa (Tim) O’Keefe; a close friend, Devin (Jackie) Sappington; he was a proud grandfather to Rochelle (Daniel) Whitford, Amanda Darling, Jon Thomas Robertson, Meghan, and Lauren O’Keefe; he also a proud great grandfather to Ford and Stella Whitford; his brothers, Robert E. (Cindy) Mountain of Olean and Noel Mountain of Indialantic, FL; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Robert E. Mountain and Marie Herold Mountain.
Funeral Services will be private for the Immediate Family only at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
