John G. Adrian of 125 South 8th Street, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 in the Olean General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
John was born on Oct. 14, 1925 in Blasdell and was a son of George and Mary McAuliffe Adrian. He was formerly married to Beverly Miller and Joyce Adrian. On April 17, 1990 in Cebu City Philippians he married Dominga "Ming" Mericullo who survives.
John was a 1942 graduate of Blasdell High School. He US Army during WWII from July 21, 1943 to April 6, 1946. Following WWII, he attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers in 1944 and then the University Buffalo from 1947-1949 and then 2 years of pre-law 1949 & 1950. John worked as a carpenter for a period of time before going to at Nation wide Mutual Insurance as an agent. He retired 37 years later in about 1985. Through out his insurance career John lived a numerous places including Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and most recently Ellicottville and he moved to Olean in 2002.
John was a Member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. He was a past member and past president of the Blasdell Fire Department. He volunteered for American Red Cross as a Fire relief Servicemen Contact, Interfaith Care Givers, and the Christian Appalachian Project. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and walking.
Surviving Mr. Adrian besides is loving wife of almost 22 years are a son, Peter (Valerie) Adrian of Columbia, Washington; four daughters, Deborah (Bill) Stanton of South Carolina, Pamela Hale of South Carolina, Nancy (Jay) Matsinger of Tolous, France, and Margaret (Carl) Lund burg of Windsor, Connecticut; two step sons, Erwin (Hanelle) Balansag of General Santo City, Philippians, and Velmor Balansag of Olean; many grand & great grand children, and nieces & nephews; and two sisters, Ann Adrian of Blasdell, and Joann Nagel of West Seneca.
Mr. Adrian was pre-deceased by two infant sons; a brother, Charles Adrian; and three sisters, Elizabeth Lang, Mary Lendcitel and Catherine O'Dell.
Friends will be received today, Monday, Jan. 2, 2011 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2011 beginning with a prayer service in the Funeral Home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the Veterans Field of Honor in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
