Jennie L. Snyder of 121 Harvard Street, formerly of Olean, passed away, Sunday March 27, 2011 in WCA Hospital in Jamestown following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jennie was born on June 19, 1958 in Olean and was a daughter of Elton and Bernice Feldman Shaffer. She married her husband, Michael P. Snyder, on May 9, 1981 in Allegany, who survives.
Jennie was a 1976 graduate of Olean High School. She also graduated from Alfred State with an Associated Degree in 1978. Jennie worked in Dr. Raja's office in Olean for several years before moving to Jamestown. While in Jamestown she worked as Eligibility Worker for Chautauqua County Dept. of Social Services. They moved to Jacksonville, Fl. for three years returning back to Jamestown in 2008, where she also returned working with the Chautauqua County up until Jan. of this year.
Jennie was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. She was known as a content person who loved her husband and children very much. She enjoyed taking an active part in their lives, including going to as many sporting events as she could. Jennie was also an avid reader and enjoyed gardening.
Surviving Jennie besides her husband almost 30 years are a son, Nicholas M. Snyder of Jamestown; a daughter, Kimberly T. (Christian Coffman) Snyder of Chicago, Ill; three brothers, George M. (Sandy McCarthy) Shaffer of Cuba, Elton Lee (Paula) Shaffer of Portsmouth, NH, and James R. (Julia) Shaffer of Olean; two sisters, Mary E. (Michael) Ellison of Olean, and Martha A. (John) Foster of Portville; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Angels Church, 202 South Union Street, Olean, on Wednesday March 30, 2011 at 5:00 pm. The Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor, will celebrate.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
