Olean- Jean K. Kyser “Loving Companion, Mother, & Grandmother”
Jean K. Kyser of 1161 Two Mile Road passed away on Wednesday June 15, 2022, at Olean General Hospital following an illness.
Jean was born on May 9, 1934, in Buffalo and was the daughter of Carlton F. Kellner and Jessie I. Taylor. Formerly married to George W. Houston. She married Lester Kyser November of 1976 in Olean, who predeceased her on June 8, 1984.
Jean was graduate of Port Washington and attended Lasell Junior College. Jean loved motorcycle rides, the smell of the Olean oil fields, and steam engines. Jean and Lester enjoyed traveling across the US and Canada. Jean met Ralph roller skating which let to 30 years of happiness. She took pleasure in feeding birds and looked forward to the arrival of hummingbirds each Spring. Cats and dogs were attracted to her, and she adopted many of them. She doted on her grandchildren always remembering their birthdays.
Jean is survived by her long-time loving companion Ralph O. Holmes, her three children, David J. (Michela) Houston of Oregon, Virginia A. (Fortunato) Espina of Rockville, MD, Roger Houston of Allegany, a daughter in law, Tina (Jon) Barrett of Olean, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, her sister Nancy (Stuart) Metz of Wolfeboro, NH, and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, husband Lester Kyser, one son Douglas C. Houston in August of 1987, and her sister Sue Canfield, brother Fred Kellner.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Monday June 20, 2022, 11:00-12:00 at which time funeral services will be held the Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
