Olean – Jean E. Hannon “Loving & Devoted Mother & Grandmother”
Jean E. Hannon formerly of 210 York Street and more recently the Pines of Olean passed away Sunday December 12th, 2021, at the Olean General Hospital following an illness.
Jean was born on March 18th, 1930, in Olean. She was the daughter of John Ander and Selma Karlsson Swanson. On September 29th, 1951, at St Mary’s Church she married her loving husband James Eugene “Gene” Hannon who predeceased her.
Jean was a 1947 graduate of Allegany High School. After high school she worked as a switchboard operator at N.Y Tel in Olean before getting married. After that she focused on raising her children. In 1987 she and her husband bought Collins Memorials in Allegany which they ran until their retirement in 1995.
Jean was a very active member of the Basilica of St Mary’s. She volunteered cleaning, participated in Bible studies, and volunteered at the annual festival. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, sewing, and baking her Swedish cinnamon rolls. She was a very meticulous housekeeper. She enjoyed genealogical work on both sides of her family. Jean also volunteered at Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed watching sports with her family, especially St. Bonaventure Basketball, Buffalo Bills, and Notre Dame.
Jean is survived by her nine children; Kristine A. Hannon of Rochester, John M. (Nancy) Hannon of Ridgewood, New Jersey, Kevin J. (Anne) Hannon of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, Steven M. Hannon of Orlando, Florida, Matthew J. (Denys) Hannon of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, James Eugene (Nancy Williams) Hannon Jr. of Lanexa, Virginia, Patrick F. Hannon of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Andrew K. (Susan) Hannon of Olean, and Bridget M. (Charles) Forth of Hamburg, 17 grandchildren; Katie, Kelly, Mark, Erin, Sean, Colleen, Molly, Meghan, Henry, Jane, Brynne, Erik, Emily, Stephanie, Jack, Alec, and Madelyn, and 17 great grandchildren.
Jean was predeceased by her husband on October 22nd, 2002, her parents, two brothers, Sigurd and Richard Swanson, and one sister, Mary Ann Prenatt.
Friends will be received on Friday December 17th, 2021, from 4:00-7:00pm at Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home 646 E State St., Olean. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 18th, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels 202 S Union St., Olean and burial will be at Saint Bonaventure Cemetery.
