Irene A. Vollentine of 2115 Hastings Road, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Olean General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Irene was born on November 21, 1929 in Colden, NY and was a daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Katoski Bakerzinski. On Aug. 15, 1953 in the First Presbyterian Church in Faulkner, she married D. Kirk Vollentine, who survives.
Irene grew up in Holland NY. She worked for a number of places in the area including Lob Laws Grocery, the Darling Shore and then for AVX in Olean for about 10 years from 1958 to 1968. Irene was an accomplished artist, who excelled in drawing & painting of pictures. She loved doing ceramics and was well known for her baking and especially her baking of wedding cakes.
Surviving Irene, besides her loving husband, Kirk Vollentine of 60 years, are her nieces, nephews, and great nieces & nephews. She was pre-deceased by five siblings Benjamin, Lottie & Anthony Bakerzinski, Stella Brinkhus and Donald Baker.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 1:00 pm. Sr. Sharon L. O'Neil, Pastoral Care at St. Elizabeth Mother House will officiate, Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
