Herbert A. Snyder of 646 Queen Street, Olean, passed away Thursday February 17, 2010 in the WCA Hospital, in Jamestown, NY following an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Snyder was born July 28, 1930 in Olean, he was the son of Herbert A. and Rose Fahey Snyder, Sr. On September 27, 1953 in the St. Mary of the Angels Church he married his wife of 45 years, Phyllis Doane, who predeceased him on June 2, 1998.
Mr. Snyder was a 1948 Graduate of Allegany High School. He served in the US Army during the Korean War time from Aug. 12, 1948 to May 12, 1952. Following his Army service he worked at Holsum Bakeries and then later Outerkirk Roofing and Siding in Olean. Mr. Snyder then went to work at Stroehmann Bakeries in Olean for almost 30 years retiring in 1997 as a salesman.
Mr. Snyder was a life long member of St. Mary of the Angels Church where he was an usher. He played football for the "Olean Rockets" in his younger years. Mr. Snyder enjoyed going Silver Springs Fl in the winter, playing golf and hunting. He was a former member of some the local clubs including the Olean Elks where he was a former Exulted Ruler.
Surviving Mr. Snyder are one son, Michael P. (Jennie) Snyder of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Stephen C., Kimberly T., Nicholas M. and Christopher Snyder; a sister, Frances (David) Outerkirk of Olean; and many nieces & nephews.
Mr. Snyder was pre-deceased by a son, Stephen C. Snyder; two sisters, Mary Chapman, and Anna K. Hirliman; and two brothers, John and William Snyder.
Friends will be received today, Friday Feb. 18, 2001 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean. Funeral services will be held on Saturday Feb. 19, 2011 beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in at St. Mary of the Angels Church on Sat. Feb. 19, 2011 at 10:00AM. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery Allegany, NY. Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 Ritual Team.
