Helen J. Szarafin, 94, of New Mexico Road, Cuba passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Szarafin was born Nov. 21, 1917 in Buffalo. On Nov. 21, 1937, in Buffalo, she married, her husband of 71 years, Edward A Szarafin, who predeceased her on Jan. 7, 2008.
Mrs. Szarafin worked from home, in West Seneca, with developmentally disabled adults for over 45 years. She had a tremendously big heart for the disadvantaged. Mrs. Szarafin and her husband provided a home, a family, and hope for individuals with mental illness and was awarded a certificate of recognition from the New York State Office of Mental Health for their contributions.
Mrs. Szarafin was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Cuba.
Mrs. Szarafin loved baking and cooking, but what she truly loved most was taking care of and loving her family.
Mrs. Szarafin is survived by one son, Martin C. Szarafin of West Seneca; one daughter, Cindy Jones of Cuba; and many grand and great grandchildren.
Along with her loving husband, Mrs. Szarafin was predeceased by one daughter, Patricia Trbovich
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at St. Gabriel of the Sorrows Catholic Church, 5217 Clinton St., Elma, NY at 10:00 AM. Father Dan Payls will officiate. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy. Cuba.
