Helen Gloria Veno Marra, formerly of 721 Maple St, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014.
Helen was born May 1st, 1927 in Roseville, Ohio. She was the daughter of Louis Veno and Anna Vena. On June 28, 1947, she married her husband, John F. Marra, of Olean, who passed away on April 1, 2008.
Helen graduated from Olean High School in 1945.
She was well liked, extremely bright, and a fierce competitor in all her endeavors. Upon graduation, Helen moved to Washington D.C. to work in the Western Union Department at the Pentagon during World War II. Later in life she began a new career working at WHDL radio station in Olean where she became an instant success in the sales department. Ultimately, Helen's passion in life was always the happiness of her family, and the education and success of her children. She made that her lifetime focus and took great pride in their accomplishments.
Helen was elegant, devoted, kind and nurturing. She was a tremendous cook and baker, had impeccable style, and was always prepared to welcome friends and family with good food and warm conversation. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Helen is survived by her son John F. (Marjorie) Marra, M.D. of Baltimore, MD.; daughters Annette (Thomas) Carroll of Yorktown, IN, and Linnea (Norman) Henderson of Alpharetta, GA. She has nine loving grandchildren, Thomas Carroll Jr., Charlotte Marra, Mallory Marra, Jill Carroll, John Frederick "Jack" Marra, Holly Henderson, Heidi Henderson, Hope Henderson and Hayden Henderson; a brother Carl (Linda) Veno of Allentown PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by siblings Jennie (Sylvester) Jadlowski, Catherine (William) Hurley, and Anthony (Bonnie) Veno.
Friends were received Today, Nov. 25, 2014 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at which time a Prayer Service was held at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street Olean. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Today, Nov. 25, 2014 at 12:00 at St. John's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward J. Sheedy, Pastor, officiated. Burial was at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
