Genevieve R. Mooney, formerly of 118 East Henley Street, & Eden Heights, Olean, NY died at the Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Olean, NY on Saturday, August 27, 2011.
She was born October 6, 1917 in Olean, NY. She was the daughter of Shirley H. and Winifred (Green) Vincent. On July 6, 1940, she married Thomas A. Mooney, who died on March 18, 2007.
She was a graduate of Olean High School. She and her husband were former owners of West State Hardware - formerly known as Wagner-Fowler Hardware from 1948-1979. Prior to her illness, she was an active 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Olean, NY and its Builders Class, served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Olean area stroke support group, and enjoyed working outdoors. She also was a very devoted wife, caring for her ill husband for several years.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn M. (Arthur J.) Brown of Olean, NY and a son, Gary V. Mooney of Wellsville, NY; Six grandchildren, Lori A. (Michael) Funden of Olean, NY, Jill M. Hoopes of Richburg, NY, Joy L. (Eddie) Skiver of Shinglehouse, PA, Grant V. Mooney of Olean, NY, Lisa M. (David) Giovanetti, and Erica A. Mooney of Salem and Deepwater, NJ; 11 great-grandchildren - Logan and Joseph Funden, Adam and Paige Hoopes, Miranda, Marissa, and Madison Giovanetti, Alton and Hayden Skiver, and Liah and Jade Mooney; and several nieces and nephews, with special mention of a niece, Valerie (Alan) McKenzie-Shannon and nephew, Stephen Vincent of Auburn, NY; a sister-in-law Jane Vincent-Ward, Auburn, NY; and a cousin, Ellen (Francis) Reesher, Ceres, NY. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mooney was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Howard A. and Richard H. Vincent of Olean, NY; a son, Robert T. Mooney formerly of Philadelphia, PA; and a great-granddaughter, Kayden Funden of Olean, NY.
Mrs. Mooney was also quite blessed to have an extended step family - Daniel, Kim Stephen, Stephanie Brown, and Michael Hoppy, Lisa, Gary, and Haley Whitmarsh, and Alison, Michael, Monica, and Ren� Kintner. They made her feel like one of the family with their generous acts of kindness and invitations to their family gatherings. The times shared with each and every one of them were appreciated and enjoyed.
At the request of Mrs. Mooney, there will be no visitation. A private family gathering and committal service will occur on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Olean, NY. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the First Baptist church, Olean, NY at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist church (c/o the Music Program), Mt. View Cemetery P.O.
