Olean- Gary R. Greenstein “Loving Husband, Brother & Uncle”

Gary R. Greenstein of King Street passed away on Wednesday April 5, 2023, at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness.

Gary was born on January 17, 1947, in New Bedford, MA., and was the son of Daniel and Nella Natalie Sher Greenstein. On February 14, 1970, in Olean he married his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia C. McFadden who survives.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Olean High School and enlisted in the United States Navy October 26, 1965, until October 15, 1969. He attended the University of Central Florida and received his Bachelors degree in 1981 as well as a Masters in 1987. Gary secured his second Masters of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State in 1995. Gary worked for several companies before going to work at East Carolina University in 1996 and returned 13 years later in 2009. He returned to Olean in 2010 and worked at Jamestown Community College’s library for several years. Gary was a member of several library associations throughout his career. He enjoyed fishing, reading, going to the casino, and was an ordained minister in Universal Church.

Beside his loving wife Patti, Gary is survived by his brother, Joel B. (Karen Ellis) Greenstein of Daytona Beach, FL., and several nieces and nephews.

Gary was predeceased by his parents.
