Frederick J. "Fred" Moricca, of 101 Madison Avenue, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital, from a brief illness, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Fred was born on April 16, 1945 in Olean and was a son of Fortunato J. and Theresa C. Previglian Moricca. On Sept. 9, 1966, he married his wife of 50 years, Donna M. Swendsen, who survives. Fred was a 1963 graduate of Olean High School. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1967 with his Bachelor of Arts in History. Fred was ROTC at St. Bonaventure and enlisted in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant for 4 years. He was honorably discharged having achieved the rank of Captain. Fred returned to college and completed his Master's Degree in Counseling also from St. Bonaventure University in 1972. He worked for the New York State Department of Labor as an employment counselor for 34 years, retiring in 2002. In 2004, Fred began working at Jamestown Community College as a Career Counselor, where he received the 2016 "JCC President's Award for Excellence" as an Adjunct Faculty. Fred was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. He enjoyed trains (all real & model railroad), a variety of music, dancing, and wine trips. Fred was an awesome cook and griller. He enjoyed people and attending and hosting dinner parties, but most of all he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandkids. Along with his loving wife, Fred is survived by four children, Frederick J. (Sue) Moricca, III of Olean, Michelle A. (Dan) McGraw of Cuba, Elizabeth A. "Beth" Ross of Cresco, PA and Nicole A. Moricca of Olean; six grandchildren, Matthew Ross, Mark (Kristel) Ross, Benjamin McGraw, Sabrina Moricca, Zachary McGraw, and Maggie Rose McGraw; one great grandson, Brayden Ross; one sister-in-law, Mary Moricca of Olean; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many many close friends. Fred was predeceased by one great grandson, Travis John Ross on Nov. 28, 2014; an infant twin brother, Michael Thomas Moricca at birth; a brother, Francis T. "Chic" Moricca; and a sister, Gloria Miller. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State Street, Olean on today, April 12, 2017 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April, 13, 2017, beginning at the Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 9:30 AM, followed by Funeral Services at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Faculty Student Association in the Memo line to Club Valor, Jamestown Community College, Cattaraugus County Campus, #260 North Union Street, Olean, New York 14760.
