Mrs. Frances L. Houston, formerly of Bishop and Bristol Street, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital palliative care unit.
Mrs. Houston was born on January 1, 1914 in Cuba, NY and was the daughter of Seeley and Margaret Smith Bolton. On February 28, 1947 in Cuba she married her husband of 26 years Norman Houston who predeceased her on September 29, 1973.
Mrs. Houston worked on the assembly line at Acme Electric for many years as well as housekeeping in various homes in the area. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cuba, where she served as Deacon. She also was a member of the Cuba Historical Society and the Cuba Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Houston is survived by three granddaughters, Dawn Sloat, Regina (Paul Astalos) Dennis of Cuba, and Ondrea (Terry) Hummul of New Mexico; several great-grandchildren including Evan Hummul; and special niece, Linda (Fred) Goldthwaite of Friendship.
Mrs. Houston is predeceased by one son, John W. Houston; one daughter, Norma Sloat; and two brothers, Samuel and Elwood Bolton.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba where funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma will officiate in the absence of the Rev. John C. Woodring, pastor of The First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Cuba Cemetery.
