Eugene D. MacArthur of 3796 Barse Track Road, passed Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 in the Absolut at Allegany.
Mr. MacArthur was born Oct. 21, 1917 in Nunda and was a son of Harold D. and Frances Dolan MacArthur. On June 29, 1940 in Derrick City he married his wife of 35 years Janice Barber who predeceased him March 2, 1975. Mr. MacArthur was also married to Genevieve Touro and later Anna Madelon Marvin, who also pre-deceased him.
Gene graduated Nunda Central School in 1937. He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII from Sept. 27, 1939 to Oct. 29, 1945. Following the war he was employed by Quakerstate Oil Co. doing various jobs for almost 40 years including driving truck for over 20 years.
Gene enjoyed reading, civil war history and hunting. He lived in Knapp Creek for 66 years and was a member of the Knapp Creek Trinity Methodist Church. Gene was a former member of The Knapp Creek Fire Department where he served as a fire chief. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Eugene is survived by one son, Dale D. (Kathy) MacArthur of Allegany; several step children; two grandchildren, Damon D. (Lori) MacArthur, and Shannon A. MacArthur both of Allegany; and five great grandchildren, Gracie, Connor, Vincent, Kenna, & Kalia.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at which time Funeral Services will be held the Rev. Gerald C. Piper, Pastor of the Knapp Creek Trinity Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
